Delightful Day

Good Morning San Diego,

And what a beautiful start to the day we are having….

Every now and then,
when the world sits just right,
a gentle breath of heaven
fills my soul with delight…

Foggy Foggy Dew

Good Morning San Diego,

We are a little damp around the ears this morning after an amazingly hot Tuesday. I checked out the temp in North Park at 6pm last night – 88 degrees. And this morning it is an amazingly foggy damp beginning to another beautiful San Diego day. I thought you might like to remember one of my fav poets best known short poems:

FOG

FOG

The fog comes
on little cat feet.

It sits looking
over harbor and city
on silent haunches
and then moves on.

Carl Sandburg

Foggy Palm

If you were out and about this week you might have had a chance, if you were really lucky, to see something like this:

Through the Rail

Moonchild

Good Morning San Diego,

After an amazingly good nights sleep, I awoke early and found sister moon still illuminating our western horizon as the brother sun tried to force his way through all our insistent slate grey cloud cover in the east.

That orbed maiden, with white fire laden,
Whom mortals call the moon.
~Percy Bysshe Shelley, The Cloud

Change and change again

Good Morning San Diego,

It is waaay to wet and foggy to get a good picture for you this morning, so here is one I took yesterday. I think they were heading out quickly because they knew that the weather was changing….

Nothing that is can pause or stay;
The moon will wax, the moon will wane,
The mist and cloud will turn to rain,
The rain to mist and cloud again,
Tomorrow be today.
~Henry Wadsworth Longfellow

The Beauty Overhead

One summer night, out on a flat headland, all but surrounded by the waters of the bay, the horizons were remote and distant rims on the edge of space.  Millions of stars blazed in darkness, and on the far shore a few lights burned in cottages.  Otherwise there was no reminder of human life.  My companion and I were alone with the stars:  the misty river of the Milky Way flowing across the sky, the patterns of the constellations standing out bright and clear, a blazing planet low on the horizon.  It occurred to me that if this were a sight that could be seen only once in a century, this little headland would be thronged with spectators.  But it can be seen many scores of nights in any year, and so the lights burned in the cottages and the inhabitants probably gave not a thought to the beauty overhead; and because they could see it almost any night, perhaps they never will.  ~Rachel Carson

Fire it up Baby

In everyone’s life, at some time, our inner fire goes out.  It is then burst into flame by an encounter with another human being.  We should all be thankful for those people who rekindle the inner spirit.  ~Albert Schweitzer

Good Evening San Diego,

It’s me again. Roasting my toes on the flames of my amazing friendships. So many people to be thankful for. New friends and old friends,  left behind but somehow still tied to the heartstrings, get pulled back into my life just at the right moment to spark my flagging flame once again. You know the ones, those that never cause a  burn,  but just simmer and sizzle and keep those loving embers ablaze. How have I been so blessed to have you in my life? Some people are just more lucky than others, I guess. It does pay to be Irish after all…..

To Think or Not To Think

Good Morning San Diego,

Here is your list of whats on the schedule for this month: lets see what I can do with it….

  • National Humor Month (can I be funny?)
  • International Guitar Month (funny would be me attempting to play guitar for you)
  • Keep America Beautiful Month (I could polish my guitar before I attempted to play for you)
  • Lawn and Garden Month (I could attempt to play sitting amongst the weeds in my yard)
  • Poetry Month (I could wear organza as I sing my stanza)
  • National Pecan Month (wow! this is tougher than I thought it would be)
  • National Welding Month (I could think about permanently sealing my mouth shut)
  • Records and Information Management Month (I could shred all the evidence of this particular blog)
  • Stress Awareness Month (I could acknowledge that this may have been a bad idea, what was I thinking?)
  • Assault Awareness Month (I can duck away from all the thrown tomatoes)
  • Come on…it’s really hard to think on Monday!
